Skeletal Muscle Relaxants: Uses

  1. As an adjuvant to general anaesthesia in procedures involving intubation, abdominal/thoracic surgery, endoscopy, orthopaedic manipulations
  2. Competitive blockers used in ocular surgery as paralysis of eye muscle occurs at much lower concentrations
  3. Convulsions/ trauma from electroconvulsive therapy can be avoided (succinylcholine used)
  4. Severe tetanus not controlled by diazepam can be treat with competitive blockers
